The second quarter has been kind of chaotic. I have been stressing over balancing my class work with projects that I have to do with HOSA (Health Occupation Students of America). I'm competing in a group competition for Public Health. My group members are Yasser A., Laurique H., Ashely A., and Maxwell S. Our topic for Public Health this year is Second Hand Stress. It is stressful to do so much work because we have to figure out times when we can all meet and the locations. Other than HOSA, the second quarter went pretty well. Class work is all done, I'm in all honors classes, and I have still obtained my 4.0 GPA. I haven't done any sports, but I am definitely playing a sport next year. I am just debating over whether I'm going to play Volley Ball or do Track.
My teaching experience was great! It was interesting to put myself in a teacher's shoes and see from their perspective. The subject I taught the class was Child Labor. First, I gave the class a quick write question just like every other normal day. Then, I gave the class some main points about Child Labor in general and where it still occurs today. For the last activity, I gave the class a debate statement: Factories would have been better off without child labor. After I gave the class five minutes to discuss the topic with their peers, everyone came together and addressed the statement as a class. Overall, I thought the class went really well; however, there were still some negatives. I finally know how the teachers feel when the class won't stop talking. It gets irritating and annoying, so I want to apologize to all of my past and current teachers if I have ever disrupted their class. So, sorry.
This quarter was an interesting one. I obtained my 4.0 GPA, my football team won the championship, and I have met many new people. The classes here are interesting because we are all required to take the same classes despite our academic standards; whereas, in other high schools, the honors and college prep classes are separated. It's different because I have to work with students that might take a longer time to process information, so it has taught me patience. All of the classes that I am taking have taught me how to connect with more people and collaborate with others. The classes have also helped with my public speaking. I used to be afraid of public speaking and chicken out of every opportunity there was to speak. But this first quarter has taught me that this school is a bully free environment and I have nothing to be insecure about when speaking.
